Phishing and MSPs: Teach your clients well.

imgoToday’s blog suggests a simple value adding idea that might help you provide greater client satisfaction.

Despite all the firewalls and spam folders, there is one excellent method for hackers to get into systems. It is the phishing scam. As you know, phishers send out emails on a subject that would appear to be relevant to the reader. In the text of the email is a link. When the reader opens that link, the trouble begins. Opening could allow malware to be installed that can steal data or do other nefarious things. The other ruse is that the link takes the reader to a legitimate appearing site that asks for personal information. Believing it is legit, readers enter the data and the damage is done.

The trouble here is that technology can’t fix this problem. Only education can.It is a people problem. MSPs can play a role for their clients by sending along information to all their users that explains the phishing scam and how it works. Only through constant training will individuals learn to be more suspicious of their inbox.

Some companies have even begun deliberately sending out phishing emails to their workers as a training tool. If the employee falls for it, a window opens announcing they’ve been scammed and need to be more careful. It also includes tips on how to avoid bad emails in the future.

Are there ways you could provide additional value to your clients through education programs? Simple things like educating them about scams could add value to your services and help you distinguish your business from the competition..
